Apple Launches A New Edition Watch For The Black History Month

In celebration of the annual Black History Month and several organizations and movements to support the Black community of America, Apple launches limited-edition ‘Black Unity Collection’ Apple Watch.  This watch comes with a uniquely designed band having black, green, and red stripes on it. The watch face also comes with the same colors that represent the Pan-African flag.

Appel plans to use some of the sale proceeds from this limited-edition watch to the organizations that fight for civil rights and against racism.

Apple Watch 6 Series Rebranded?

This watch has a different and unique band and watch-face, yet it is very similar to the aluminum version of the Apple Watch 6 Series. The starting price for this watch is $399 and the band will be separately available for sale at a price of $49.

Support for global organizations

Apple has pledged millions of dollars to support the organizations that fight for racial equity. With this limited-edition watch also, Apple plans to extend support to six global organizations. Some of these major organizations include “Black Lives Matter Support Fund, the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, and European Network Against Racism.”

Apple’s other initiatives to support the Black community.

The new limited-edition watch is not the only thing that Apple is coming up with to support the Black community, but it has some other projects piped up for Black History Month of 2021.

First off, the App Store will highlight Black app developers, their apps, and Black-owned businesses too.

Secondly, on Apple Music, Black artists and their music will be curated and supported along with their original videos.

EatOkra is going to give Black-owned restaurant recommendations on Apple Maps throughout Black History Month.

Apple TV and Apple News may highlight curated stories related to Black lives, families, their experiences, etc.

Apple Books and Apple Podcasts are also going to highlight Black authors and artists.

While this is all nice and Apple’s efforts should be commended, there is no doubt that Apple is trying hard to fight against racial biases, racism, and inequity. It is all very pleasant to see that the tech giant is going so far and taking such leaps and bounds to stand in support and solidarity with the Black Americans. However, it will be nicer if Apple and other tech companies also try to give them so much importance on other days. In fact, why there has to be a special month to celebrate or support a specific community in America remains a mystery, because it essentially nullifies and contradicts the core purpose of the whole ‘anti-racism’ objective! By highlighting an issue for one month, the companies are inadvertently becoming a part of that same issue somehow!

Giving so much focus to this issue for one month may also mean that these tech giants are laying off their hands off this issue for the rest of the year? Superficially, Apple’s initiatives for Black History Month are absolutely amazing, but once we plunge into the depth of the same matter, these initiatives look a little inadequate and it seems that Apple should continue its efforts throughout the year instead of just one month of publicized hype.
