Apple launches new iOS and “retires” older iPhones; find out which models

The Apple company announced the new iOS 17 system last Monday (5) at the WDC 2023 developer conference.

The new system will bring some news to the devices, but some old models will no longer be compatible. The iPhones 8, 8 Plus and X, which were released in 2017, will no longer be able to update the operating system, according to the company.

With the iOS 16 update last year, the iPhones 6s, 7 and 7 Plus were left out of the update. Every year Apple releases a new operating system and older devices are incompatible. The iOS 17 system update should arrive in the second half, along with new Apple devices, the iPhone 15.

iPhones XS, XS Max, XR are compatible and can update to iOS 17, as well as iPhones SE (2020) SE (2022). Newer models, iphones 11,12,13 and 14 are also within the update

Updates

Imessage, the cell phone’s own messaging application, will automatically transcribe the audios, in addition to allowing location sharing. In addition, cell phones will begin to transcribe messages in the mailbox in real time, this will give the opportunity to answer the cell phone while the message is being recorded.

Airdrop, which enables Apple devices to share files, will gain a new function. When you bring one device close to another, your contact information will be transferred to the other device.

A new application called Journal will act as a kind of diary. In it, you can write thoughts, activities, analyze how you spend time and other daily tasks.

Also, improvements to autocorrect and dictation will be made. Facetime will also be able to share audio and videos even when the other person is not available at that time.

iOS will also show quick information while in “Standby” mode, which is a new function. You can leave the cell phone resting or charging and it can be customized to show different types of clocks, favorite photos and widgets. This will make the iPhone more usable even when viewed from a distance.
