Apple M1 overtook almost all new processors that Intel introduced

Apple’s octa-core M1 processor outperformed virtually all new Intel processors in the PassMark single-core test. It turned out to be more powerful than the latest Core i7-11700K, but it could not surpass the i9-11900K in terms of performance.

According to the data from the CPU Mark table, the Apple M1 scored 3550 points, while its competitor Core i7-11700K – 3542 points. The difference, of course, is not much, however, given the fact that this is the first release of Apple’s own chip for the Mac, this is no small feat.

It’s worth noting that the M1-based Mac mini with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage starts at $ 699. But the price of the Rocket Lake i9-11900K processor alone is $ 539. This pricing policy is due to the fact that Intel chips have an advantage in multi-core performance. In this case, they are much more powerful than the M1.

As for the M1 processor itself, it is the first chip from the company to be based on eight ARM cores: four high-performance Firestorm cores with access to 12 MB L2 cache and 4 energy-efficient Icestorm cores with 4 MB of L2 cache. This kind of architecture is similar to ARM DynamicIQ or Intel hybrid technology solutions. Each core provides the best performance and incredible processing power for single threaded tasks. In addition, the Apple M1 is equipped with an eight-core graphics processor capable of simultaneously executing 25,000 threads, and a 128-bit LPDDR4X-4266 controller and 8/16 GB of RAM. This means that the chip can easily solve the most complex problems. In addition, the processor has the world’s fastest integrated graphics in a personal computer, with a throughput of 2.6 teraflops.

Although the Apple M1 processor may have high single-threaded performance, it still has no chance of competing in multi-threaded tests. Most likely, the future high-performance Apple M1X chip will change this situation and already take first place in the table.
