The first test results of the latest Apple M1 Ultra single-chip system have appeared. Judging by the results, the new product has demonstrated impressive performance and can compete with one of the most powerful AMD chips.
The benchmark was posted by @Benchleaks on Twitter. In the GeekBench 5 multi-core test, Apple’s top flagship M1 Ultra processor scored a whopping 24,055 points. At the same time, the Apple M1 Ultra almost caught up with the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X processor, only a few percent behind. The source confirms that the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X was only 4.5 percent faster.
Recall that the Apple M1 Ultra is, in fact, two Apple M1 Max SoCs connected together using a technology that Apple calls UltraFusion. The Apple M1 Ultra features a 20-core CPU, 64-core GPU, and 32-core Neural Processor, each twice the size of the M1 Max.

The memory bandwidth on the M1 Ultra is also higher than previous models, reaching up to 800 GB/s. M1 Ultra works with unified memory up to 128 GB. As with other M1 models, all of this memory is available to both the CPU and GPU.
The Apple M1 Ultra has the ability to play up to 18 streams of 8K ProRes 422 video simultaneously. The platform also supports up to five displays, four of which can be 6K Pro Display XDR along with a fifth 4K display.
