Apple continues to dominate the global tablet market with more than half of its revenue. This is evidenced by a new report from the analytical firm Strategy Analytics, dedicated to the state of affairs in the market of processors for tablet computers in the second quarter of 2021.
Total tablet processor market revenue last quarter was $ 737 million, according to Strategy Analytics. 58% of this amount went to Apple, which uses proprietary processors in its iPad tablets. Apple leads the pack by a noticeable lead over competitors such as Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek and Samsung. American chipmaker Intel managed to get 14% of all revenue in the tablet market, while Qualcomm’s share in the second quarter was 10%.
Analysts say the tablet processor market has shrunk by 8% year over year. At the same time, when compared with the second quarter of 2019, shipments increased by 23%. They name Taiwanese chipmaker MediaTek as one of the manufacturers that recorded a noticeable increase in shipments. In the last quarter, it shipped 19% more processors. This growth is driven by strong demand from tablet manufacturers for the MediaTek Helio series chips.
