Apple outplayed everyone? The iPhone 15 series will get both Lightning and USB-C

According to a recent decision by the European Union, in 2024 Apple (like all other manufacturers) will be forced to transfer its smartphones to the USB-C connector if it wants to sell them in Europe. This has already been confirmed by several sources at once, including well-known analyst Ming-Chi Ko (Ming-Chi Kuo). However, the latest rumors in foreign media suggest that the company intends to use two connectors in the iPhone 15 series of smartphones – Lightning and USB-C.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Max will reportedly have a Lightning connector, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have USB-C. After this series, Apple will still transfer its smartphones to USB-C. It is expected that this connector will be used by all iPhone 16 models. It is also possible that the iPhone 16 Pro will not have any connectors at all – the company may switch exclusively to wireless charging.

In fact, the transition to USB-C in the case of the iPhone is only a matter of time, because most Apple devices already use this connector. USB-C has many advantages, and it’s not only about fast charging, but also compatibility with other mobile devices. Be that as it may, the release of the iPhone 15 is still very far away, and the presentation of the iPhone 14 series of smartphones is expected in September.
