Apple refused to repair a warranty iPhone broken by employees

According to Business Insider, iPhone owner Theodore A. Kim is suing Apple, demanding $ 1,383.13 from the company. This is the exact cost of the iPhone 12, which Apple refused to repair despite the device still under warranty. Kim bought his phone in Vietnam in October 2020 and the warranty was valid until October 2022, according to the owner of the device.

Theodore Kim took his phone with him when he arrived in the US during the pandemic, but the smartphone was having difficulty reading the American SIM card. He called Apple and the company asked him to bring the phone to the Apple Store, which he did.

I brought it to the store and they sent it in for repair. Then they came back and said: “We are not going to fix this, because the smartphone has been changed.” They did not answer my question about what changes are in question.

When he got his iPhone 12 back, he found a broken SIM tray. Kim filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), alleging that the SIM tray was damaged while the phone was with Apple. Apple responded by saying that if the SIM tray had been broken by its employees, it would have repaired the device. The company believes the issue is closed.

After Apple canceled the warranty, Kim offered to pay to repair his iPhone, but Apple also refused. In late June, he decided to send an email to Apple CEO Tim Cook, but never got a response. So he sued.

The outcome of the trial will depend on whether Kim can convince the court that his phone was with Apple when the SIM card tray was broken. According to Kim, this has already been confirmed by one of the managers of the Apple Store.
