Apple saves $6.5 billion by removing headphones and charger from iPhone box

In 2020, with the release of the flagship iPhone 12 series, Apple removed the headphones and charger from the package of its new smartphones, leaving only the Lightning / USB-C cable. Many criticized the American manufacturer for such a step, believing that he did this in pursuit of increasing profits. However, he himself explains his decision by concern for the environment and the desire to reduce the carbon footprint and the number of electronic waste. However, Apple still managed to save a large amount on the refusal of charging and headphones, as evidenced by a new Daily Mail report.

By removing the EarPods and power adapter from the iPhone box, Apple has calculated that Apple could save about £5 billion, or about $6.5 billion at current exchange rates. Also, by reducing the size of the iPhone box, the shipping pallet can now accommodate 70% more smartphones than before, which in turn has reduced logistics costs by about 40%.

But it hasn’t been without benefits to the environment. Apple’s decision allegedly reduced annual carbon dioxide emissions by 2 million tons. This is equivalent to if 500,000 cars disappeared from the roads at once.
