Apple secretly collected information from Apple Watch: the new watch will itself report an accident

Apple introduced fall detection in Apple Watch Series 4, which lets you know when a user has fallen and make a call and send a message to saved numbers.

According to The Wall Street Journal, relying on its own informants, now Apple is developing a similar function, but for traffic accidents.

Over the past year, the company has reportedly conducted tests and collected anonymous telemetry from the watch. Apple has tracked 10 million suspected accidents and has been able to link 50,000 such accidents with subsequent emergency calls. The source added that the sudden acceleration detected by the watch before calling emergency services was more likely to be caused by an accident.

Google implemented something similar a couple of years ago with the Personal Safety app for Pixel phones. This app took into account the user’s location, as well as data from motion sensors and microphones, to guess if there was an accident.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the new Apple Watch, due out next year, will receive an accident detection system, while it will be quite accurate and will ensure that there are no false alarms.

Perhaps this system will not work in all regions at once.
