Apple took over: an antitrust investigation into the 30% commission in the AppStore began in Europe

The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has announced the start of an antitrust investigation against Apple. The 30% commission in the AppStore is outraging many developers, to which the UK authorities reacted.

In mid-February, Epic Games filed a formal antitrust complaint against Apple with the European Commission, alleging that the Cupertino giant is dishonestly using its iOS ecosystem to levy a 30 percent tax on App Store purchases.

The antitrust investigation will assess whether Apple has a dominant position in the distribution of apps for iOS devices in the UK. In addition, the UK Competition and Markets Authority will examine whether Apple is imposing unfair or anti-competitive conditions on developers using the App Store.
