Apple unveils watchOS 9 with new watch faces, metrics and features

Along with the new version of iOS, Apple has introduced a software update for its smartwatches. watchOS 9 will be available to developers first, with a final release scheduled for this fall when the new Apple Watch 8 launches.

First of all, users will be able to pin active applications for quick access to them. There is also a new Siri interface. In addition to the already standard updates (four new watch faces), watchOS 9 also has new metrics.

In particular, runners will see metrics such as stride length and contact time of the runner with the surface, rise and intervals. We also added heart rate zones, which will be useful for those who need information about the level of intensity during training. Another feature seems to be aimed at triathletes as it allows you to quickly switch between cycling, swimming and running.

The Fitness app is now available to all iPhone users who use motion sensors, which means they can close their rings every day, even if they don’t have a watch. watchOS 9 has got a feature to help people with atrial fibrillation (interruptions in the heart). Watch wearers can track the time during which atrial fibrillation occurs, as well as the days or weeks when it is most active.

watchOS 9 also supports medication reminders. The corresponding function is in the Health app on Apple Watch and iPhone. It will also allow users to make a list of necessary medicines and find out their compatibility. In addition, Apple will now periodically remind you exactly what health data users can share and with whom.

watchOS 9 will be compatible with Apple Watch starting with version 4. This means that the Apple Watch 3 will no longer receive the update, which is not surprising since the watch was released in 2017.
