Apple will force developers to allow account deletion in applications

Apple will finally deal with applications that do not have the option to delete the user account or this option is hidden. Starting June 30, new rules come into effect, according to which all applications that require registration must allow users to delete an account through their interface. Here’s what Apple’s developer guidelines say:

“If your app supports account creation, you should also offer the ability to delete an account directly in the app. Developers may not require users to enter personal information, unless it is related to the main functions of the application or required by law. If the core functionality of your application is not associated with any particular social network, you must provide access to it without authorization or use other mechanisms.

These changes to Apple’s policy were originally unveiled at WWDC last year as part of a revision of the App Store guidelines. Developers have been given a January 31, 2022 deadline to make changes to their apps. However, a few days before its end, the company announced that it was extending the deadline until June 30, 2022. It is noteworthy that Apple insists that the creators of applications add the ability to delete an account along with all personal data, and not deactivate it. The company also clarified that developers should inform users if the account deletion process takes some time.

Such a solution should significantly simplify the process of deleting accounts, which is sometimes accompanied by certain difficulties and requires contacting the support service.
