Apple will stop equipping base iPhones with new processors. The logic is clear

Unlike the iPad, all new mainstream iPhones (excluding the SE) get Apple’s latest processor at launch. However, authoritative analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that this will change with the iPhone 14 series – only Pro models will be equipped with the latest Apple A16 processor, while basic smartphones will receive last year’s A15. Later, this information was confirmed by Bloomberg sources, as reported by 9To5Mac.

Apple is expected to ditch the iPhone 14 mini in favor of the iPhone 14 Max, a larger (rather than smaller) version of the base model. Both smartphones will receive the A15, which is equipped with the iPhone 13 series. However, some analysts believe that the iPhone 14 and 14 Max will already have 6 GB of RAM, not 4 GB.

Ming-Chi Ko is sure that the matter is not in the global shortage of semiconductors, but in marketing considerations. The new generation of chipsets should increase the popularity of more expensive Pro-models: analysts previously assumed that by the end of 2022 the share of their sales will be 40-50% among all new products, but now this figure has grown to 60%.
