According to an internal document shared with MacRumors, Apple and authorized service centers will refuse to repair an iPhone if their smartphone is listed as lost/missing in the GSMA device registry. The message says that an Apple technician has the right to refuse to repair a smartphone if he sees such a status in the internal systems of MobileGenius or GSX. The company’s new policy is designed to reduce the number of stolen iPhones that are then brought to Apple stores and service centers.
The GSMA Device Registry is a global database designed to allow users to register their smartphones there if they are lost or stolen. Previously, Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers limited their iPhone service if the customer was unable to turn off Find My.
