Former military police officer Ronnie Lessa, identified as the killer of councilor Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, has already reduced his sentence by 200 days. He did this by reading books.

Lessa was not convicted, but has been imprisoned in the Federal Penitentiary of Campo Grande (MS) since December 8, 2020 and is part of the “Remition through Reading” program, which allows for a reduced sentence if he is convicted of double murder at the end of the process. .

According to the CNN with members of the Federal Penitentiary System, the former PM already has his sentence remitted by alternating between reading books and participating in professional courses within the maximum security unit.

According to the prison bulletins, Ronnie Lessa's prison conduct is considered “good” and there is “no note”. The prison also says that the prisoner “does not change, has good and collaborative behavior, and follows SPF procedures”.

The information collected by the report also indicates that Ronnie Lessa:

• “There is little demand for assistance related to the health sector”;
• Has good general health, has no comorbidities;
• His mental and physical health is preserved according to medical developments;
• He continues to receive regular care from the multidisciplinary team at the penitentiary in the following areas: general practitioner, psychiatrist, psychologist, dentistry, assistance from the nursing team and provision of medicines for health demands presented.

Denunciation

Three weeks ago, the Federal Supreme Court (STF) approved Lessa's plea bargain in the Marielle-Anderson case, a week after the murders completed six years. After signing the agreement, lawyer Bruno Castro, who represented Lessa, left the case, as the defense did not participate in the negotiations.

Lessa admitted, for the first time, that she killed Marielle and Anderson and that she received money for the “work”. He also pointed out who would have hired him.

In January, the CNN had already revealed that two people were named in Ronnie's statement, including the counselor at the Rio State Court of Auditors Domingos Brazão. And he reported how the testimonies (called “sessions”) were collected from the federal prison.

After the ratified statement, the Federal Police arrested, on March 24, the federal deputy Chiquinho Brazão (União Brasil-RJ), the counselor of the Court of Auditors of the Union of Rio Domingos Brazão and the delegate Rivaldo Barbosa, former head of the Police of Rio, as responsible for the death of the councilwoman and the driver.

The cause would be a land dispute in the West Zone of Rio. Everyone denies involvement in the crime.
