The name of Caio Mário Paes de Andrade was approved by the eligibility committee to preside over Petrobras with 3 votes in favor and 1 against, as CNN learned from sources involved in the process. The minutes of the meeting will be published in the next few days.
Four main topics were evaluated: unblemished reputation, outstanding knowledge of the sector, academic background and experience. According to the report, there were disagreements about the knowledge and experience of the person appointed by the government to occupy the position.
One of the committee members argued that the executive does not have a clear knowledge of the oil sector and does not have experience in command of large companies. The largest company run by Andrade until now had around 100 employees.
However, the other three members understood that the executive complied with all the requirements set out in the State-Owned Companies Law.
Board members Luiz Henrique Caroli and Francisco Petros and independent members Ana Silvia Matte and Tales Bronzato are part of the eligibility committee. Councilor Marcelo Mesquita would have the vote of minerva if there was a tie.
