With the approval of the Budget Guidelines Law (LDO), voted on this Tuesday (12), the minimum wage for the year 2023 will be R$ 1,294, an increase of 6.33% compared to the current R$ 1,212. .
The new value represents a maintenance of the amount according to the forecast for the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) for the year. The index is used to adjust the salary floor.
This is the fourth year in a row that the minimum wage has not increased in real terms (above inflation).
The Plenary rejected the PT’s emphasis on raising the minimum wage estimate for next year to R$ 1,394, maintaining the original forecast of the text forwarded by the Executive Power, of R$ 1,294.
The LDO rapporteur, Senator Marcos do Val, recalled that the LDO only offers a parameter for the fiscal result projections. “The Executive Branch defines the value of the minimum wage, within the established fiscal target.”
The LDO aims to assist the execution of Executive expenditures. The Law serves as the basis for the construction of the LOA (Annual Budget Law), which defines the Union’s budgets.
The law that set the minimum wage for this year was published and published in Official Diary of the Union in June.
The norm was signed by the President of the Senate, Rodrigheco, and fixed the value of the national floor, which was announced by President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) on December 31 last year through a provisional measure (MP).
