The short “The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story” (in Portuguese, “The Spider Within: A History of the Aranhaverse”) premiered this Wednesday (27).
The short was produced in partnership with the Kevin Love Fund, an institution that raises awareness about the importance of mental health, and aims to show how even a superhero can be plagued with anxiety and the like.
“After a particularly challenging day living with these pressures, Miles has a panic attack that forces him to face the manifestations of his anxiety and learn that asking for help can be as courageous an act as protecting his city from harm,” says the synopsis.
“The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story” can be seen in Sony Pictures YouTube channel, still without dubbing into Portuguese.
Miles Morales, a young black man from Brooklyn, becomes Spider-Man after being hit by a radioactive web. He then draws inspiration from the legacy of the late Peter Parker.
However, when visiting his idol's tomb on a rainy night, he is surprised by the presence of Peter himself, wearing the hero's costume beneath a coat. The surprise gets even bigger when Miles discovers that he came from a parallel dimension, just like other versions of Spider-Man.
