The Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, announced the reactivation of the Integrated Monitoring Office of Covid-19 (GIAC).
The statement was released on the PGR Youtube channel this Tuesday (15).
The GIAC was created in March 2020 to monitor the measures to deal with the coronavirus within the scope of the Public Ministry. Its function is to support the PGR and the objective is “to contribute so that the country can, in an integrated way, provide efficient responses to the epidemic of the new coronavirus in the national territory”.
Epidemiological scenario
The GIAC reactivation announcement comes amid the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in Brazil.
Between the 6th and 12th of November, the country recorded 61,564 infections with the coronavirus. In the previous period, from October 30 to the 5th of this month, 26,304 contaminations were recorded, which means an increase of 134%, according to data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass).
In the comparison between the two periods, the number of deaths caused by Covid-19 also rose, but at a slower pace. There were 312 deaths in the week ended this Saturday, compared to 251 in the previous period. The increase was 24.3%.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, in February 2020, Brazil has already registered 34,911,937 cases and 688,654 deaths linked to Covid-19.
