Aras talks with Abin about September 7

The Attorney General of the Republic, Augusto Aras, and the leadership of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) met this Monday (5th) to talk about the 7th of September. For some time now, the PGR, along with other institutions, has been working on mapping extremist groups that may carry out violent acts on the holiday.

The meeting took place this afternoon, in the building of the Attorney General’s Office, in Brasília, and lasted about an hour. There were no interviews at the end of the meeting. Therefore, no concrete measures were announced.

Aras’ auxiliaries told the CNN that the compromise is part of the prosecutor’s series of agendas with institutions to ensure that Independence Day is not a violent date. Last week, for example, Aras met with Defense Minister Paulo Sérgio Nogueira, as the CNN released.

In case of involvement of people with privileged jurisdiction in the organization or performance of violent acts, and also those considered undemocratic, it will be up to the Attorney General’s Office to take measures, such as investigating and denouncing, if necessary.

The PGR will have normal hours this Tuesday (6), the eve of the holiday. Other bodies, such as the Judiciary and the National Congress, decreed an optional point.
