A statue that looks like Sphinx and parts of a sanctuary from an ancient temple to the south Egypt, archaeologists brought to light. As announced by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, the new archaeological findings were found in the temple of Dendera, in the province of Qena, south of Cairo.
Archaeologists believe that the statue’s smiling features may belong to the Roman emperor Claudius, who extended Rome’s rule in northern Africa between AD 41 and of 54 AD
Also found one stone slab of the Roman era with vernacular and hieroglyphic inscriptions. The limestone sanctuary includes a two-level platform and a Byzantine-era mudbrick basin.
Scientists will conduct further studies on the markings on the stone tablet, with the aim of discovering more information about the identity of the statue and the area.
