Architect Helmut Jan was killed in a car crash

German-American architect Helmut Jan was killed at the age of 81. known mainly for its postmodern creations, steel and glass buildings.

He breathed his last on Saturday in Illinois, in a car accident in which he was involved while riding a motorcycle.

According to AMPE, Helmut Jan died on Saturday afternoon in Campton Hills, about 100 kilometers west of Chicago, after “Failed to stop in Stop” at a crossroads, police explained.

The driver of the car he collided with was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

After graduating in Munich in 1965, Helmut Jan moved to Chicago to study at the Illinois Institute of Technology, a school named after the modernist architect Ludwig Miss van der Rohe, who was a major influence in his field. .

It became famous in the 1970s and 1980s, undertaking various projects in Chicago, such as the Thompson Center or the United Airlines terminal at O’Hair International Airport.

He was also involved in the design of the headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington, D.C., and later undertook major projects in Germany, such as the Munich Airport or the Sony Center complex in Berlin.

“Helmut Jan. was one of Chicago’s most inventive architects“whose impact on the city (…) will never be forgotten”, noted via Twitter the mayor of the American big city, Lori Lightfoot.

“Its architectural mark will remain tangible and visible throughout the world for generations,” she added.
