Oregon-based Arcimoto has unveiled a radical new all-wheel-drive tricycle electric bike dubbed the Mean Lean Machine (MLM). It uses “tilt technology” that makes it similar in cornering behavior to a two-wheeler, but allows for the stability of a three-wheeler.

This technology was developed for Arcimoto three-wheeled electric vehicles. But in the case of MLM, it is supplemented by pedals. Let us clarify that the pedals do not transmit mechanical force to the wheels, but are connected to them “by wire”. Pedaling is used to generate electricity, which is stored in the battery, and the battery drives the electric motors that drive the vehicle. There are three electric motors, one in each wheel hub.
An interesting feature is the trainer mode, in which the bike is fixed in place, and pedaling only charges the battery.
According to the company, “specs, equipment options, pricing and accessories will be unveiled later this year.”
