The heavy rains that hit Pernambuco left more than 6,170 people homeless or homeless and at least 91 dead so far.
In an interview with CNN Radio Lieutenant Colonel Leonardo Rodrigues confirmed the numbers and stated that there is “a complexity surrounding the operation that is underway.”
“We have four work fronts in four regions where there are reports of missing people,” he said.
The executive secretary of the Civil Defense of Pernambuco stressed that the difficulty is the “permanence of the rains in the search and rescue operations for bodies. The work is uninterrupted, but the condition is now unstable, as in landslide risk areas, it requires care.”
According to the lieutenant colonel, there are reports of people who sought to return to isolated areas to fetch furniture and personal effects.
“We advise them to maintain isolation, the condition is still one of insecurity”, he warned.
He stated that he understands that the “time is difficult and sad for everyone”, but that “security measures are necessary”.
