The government of Argentina declared on Sunday (9) three days of official mourning in the country, due to the deaths caused by the floods that reached the port city of Bahia Blanca, located in the province of Buenos Aires.
According to the Argentine newspaper La Nacion, at least 16 people have already died as a result of flooding caused by heavy rains that hit the country between Thursday night (6) and Friday morning (7).
Authorities reported that a total of approximately 1,450 people were removed from the municipality and were housed in 13 care centers.
According to a statement from the government of the country, the official mourning was declared for three days from Sunday (9) and the Argentine flag “will remain in half mast in public buildings.”
In another report, the presidency reported that the Ministry of Human Capital transported, used the Argentina Air Force, basic inputs and the Ministry of Health sent “ambulances, medicines and a mobile hospital with 40 vacancies to reinforce the local emergency system.”
The statement continued to state that the Ministry of Economy “approved extraordinary financial aid to the municipality of BahÃa Blanca of US $ 10 billion to repair the damage caused and to provide direct assistance in the city’s recovery process.”
