The Federal Administration of Public Ingresos (AFIP), Argentina’s tax collection agency, published this Thursday (14) a statement with “measures aimed at strengthening the fiscal front”.
The municipality subordinated to the Ministry of Economy informs that, as of this Thursday, a tax on foreign currency operations will be raised from 35% to 45%, in the so-called “tourism dollar” or “tarjeta dollar”.
The change affects consumption in travel and also spending abroad, as well as credit card payments for companies based outside the country, such as Netflix or Spotify, for example.
The official note says that the decision is part of several measures adopted to “guarantee fiscal balance and promote the solvency of the State as a promoter of economic activity”.
The increase in costs will be reflected, for example, in payments or withdrawals of money abroad, as well as for purchases on websites and contracts with streaming services.
