Last Tuesday (21), Comic Con Experience (CCXP), the largest geek culture fair in Brazil, decided to cancel the participation of Argentine comic artist, Patrícia Breccia, after a racist post on her Facebook. On Monday (20), she had her cell phone stolen and hurled several racial insults at the thief on her social networks.
“Hello everyone: an obese brown gorilla, one of those that abounds in the urban Congo, just stole my cell phone. (In the collective) I want to warn my Whatsapp contacts that if they receive any message from me now, it’s not me. WhatsApp was open when the brown primate took it from me. Do you understand why it was urgent for Milei to win?????”, declared Breccia.
The organization of the event, which takes place in São Paulo and starts on November 30th, clarified the cancellation of the Argentinean’s participation. The post was considered racist because it referred to a black man as a “brown primate”.

Also on social media, CCXP highlighted that “its non-negotiable value is respect for diversity and the promotion of equality, in all its varied aspects, and values being a welcoming place for everyone, not tolerating any type of discrimination”.
“Based on our values and in common agreement with Editora Risco, we decided to cancel the invitation previously made to Patrícia Breccia due to her recent statements, so that the aforementioned artist will no longer be present at CCXP23”, added the entity.

Breccia would be on the Artists’ Valley panel to launch her new comic, “Lady Frankenstein’s Lover” (Risco Editora). In addition to CCXP, the comic book publisher in Brazil also repudiated the statements, reinforcing the cancellation of her participation.
“Today we came across racist statements made by comic artist Patricia Breccia on her Facebook account. We vehemently repudiate any attitude or speech that denotes racism. Together with the organization of @ccxpoficial, we decided to immediately cancel the artist’s participation in the launch event for the comic book Lady Frankenstein’s Lover. We reaffirm our emphatic position at Risco: we repudiate any and all types of racism and prejudice. We deeply appreciate your continued support and reiterate our commitment to inclusion and respect in our community”, wrote Editora Risco in an official statement.
So far, Patrícia Breccia has not commented on the cancellation of her participation.
