Argentine President Tested Positive For COVID-19

Argentine President Alberto Fernandez, who has been vaccinated against Covid-19, announced on Friday March 2 that he was positive for the virus according to an antigen test. “At the end of the day today (Friday, editor’s note), after I had a fever of 37.3 and a slight headache, I was given an antigen test, the result of which was positive, ”the head of state said on his Twitter account.

Alberto Fernandez added that he was waiting for the result of a PCR test which should confirm whether he is contaminated or not. The president, who turned 62 this Friday, is in isolation as a precaution and said he is “in good physical condition”. “Although I would have liked to have ended my birthday without this news, I am also in good moral condition,” he added.

The Argentine president received two doses of the Sputnik V vaccine from the Russian laboratory Gamaleïa, the first on January 21 and the second on February 11, sources in the presidency told Agence France Presse. Argentina is currently facing a second wave of the coronavirus epidemic. According to official figures, this country of 44 million inhabitants has more than 2.3 million cases of contamination and 56,023 deaths linked to Covid-19.
