The Army has already identified those suspected of helping in the theft of 21 submachine guns from a barracks in Barueri, in Greater São Paulo, and is accelerating requests for preventive detention. According to a source heard by CNN the aim is to forward orders by next week.
In addition to the need to speed up investigations, the Army also fears burning files on suspects involved in organized crime. For now, the suspects are officers kept inside the barracks.

There is no longer any doubt within the Armed Forces that there was “treason”, that is, people inside the barracks – military and civilians – helped steal the submachine guns.
It is not yet known what the motivation was, nor whether there was bribery or coercion.
The Army’s objective now is to punish those responsible and find all the submachine guns. Three suspects were identified in Rio de Janeiro yesterday.
