Since October 7, around 46,000 housing units in Gaza have been completely destroyed and more than 234,000 have been partially damaged, according to a November 29 United Nations (UN) report.
Satellite analyzes by researchers at the CUNY Graduate Center and Oregon State University estimate that between 26% and 34% of all structures in the strip were damaged as of November 29.
This index was between 20% and 26% on November 18th. In Gaza and northern Gaza provinces, where airstrikes were concentrated, an estimated 52% to 65% of structures were damaged.
“Epic humanitarian catastrophe”
UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned on Wednesday (29) that the Gaza Strip is in the midst of an “epic humanitarian catastrophe”.
The speech was made during a meeting of the UN Security Council, chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
“We must work for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire with the utmost urgency,” Wang told the Council.
“A resumption of fighting would most likely turn into a calamity that would devour the entire region,” he added.
