Around 90% of complaints against fake doctors in SP are about aesthetic procedures

The Regional Medical Council of São Paulo (Cremesp) reports that, between January and May of this year, it received around 90 complaints related to medical procedures performed by people who were not doctors. Of this total, approximately 90% were related to aesthetic treatments.

Between January 2022 and May this year, the agency received 300 complaints. On average, more than ten medical interventions were reported per month during the period.

Plastic surgeon and director of communications at Cremesp, Alexandre Kataoka, told CNN that complications arise from the trivialization of aesthetic procedures. “They are often performed by professionals without the proper qualifications and training.”

According to him, because of social media, people are looking for professionals with more followers and not looking at qualifications.

Death after application of PMMA

Influencer Aline Maria Ferreira, 33, was one of the victims of a procedure performed by someone who was not a doctor.

She died on July 3 after having polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) applied to her buttocks at a clinic in Goiânia (GO).

PMMA is only approved for minimally invasive procedures on facial tissue. It is among the most frequently used substances for aesthetic purposes. However, it can cause complications such as severe hypercalcemia and chronic lesions.

According to investigations, Grazielly da Silva Barbosa, owner of the establishment and responsible for the application, presented herself as a biomedical scientist, but does not have any undergraduate degree in the health area.

Man dies after phenol peel

Businessman Henrique Chagas, 27, died minutes after undergoing a facial procedure known as phenol peeling on June 4 at a beauty clinic in the south of São Paulo.

Natalia Fabiana de Freitas Antônio, owner of the clinic and influencer who performed the procedure, was indicted by the Civil Police for murder by eventual intent. She declared herself a beautician and reported that she took a free online course to specialize.

The application of phenolic acid promises to stimulate the renewal of skin that is peeling due to the aggressiveness of the product on the tissue.
