A 34-year-old man, identified as Agnaldo dos Santos Souza, managed to escape from the custody of the Military Police (PM), last Wednesday night (25), at the Dantas Bião Regional Hospital, in Alagoinhas, in Agreste da Bahia.
He had been admitted to the unit since December 8, after being arrested on suspicion of involvement in a robbery carried out on BR-101, a region close to the city. According to the Civil Police, Agnaldo used a improvised rope made from sheets to escape of the health unit.
According to the PM, Agnaldo was detained with another man, aged 21. They allegedly committed a robbery on a section of the highway, but during their escape, the vehicle they were in crashed into another car. Both were rescued and taken to the hospital, where Agnaldo remained undergoing treatment to recover from a fracture, while the other man was taken to the Alagoinhas police station, where he remains in custody.
According to the police, the escape took place on Christmas night, when Agnaldo used an improvised rope made from sheets to escape through the window of the room where he was hospitalized. To do so, he broke the bed he was lying on, thus managing to reach the window and escape the hospital unit.
During the escape, the suspect still took the handcuffs that held his wrists.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that they registered the case at the 1st Territorial Police Station (DT) of Alagoinhas, which is now investigating the circumstances of the escape and taking steps to locate and recapture the fugitive. To date, Agnaldo has not been found, despite patrols carried out by the PM in the region.
The Military Police of the 4th Battalion (4th BPM) were also called immediately after the incident and intensified patrolling in search of the suspect, but there is still no information on his whereabouts.
