Arrested for raping and killing mother and daughters in MT, he was wanted for another homicide

Gilberto Rodrigues dos Anjos, arrested last Monday (27) suspected of killing a woman and her three daughters, in Sorriso (MT), was considered a fugitive from justice for the murder of a journalist in Goiás.

According to the Public Ministry of the State of Goiás (MPGO), on December 21, 2013, Gilberto killed Osni Mendes Araújo by asphyxiation, using the victim’s t-shirt. He was angry because the victim had tried to have a relationship with the accused.

Five days after the crime, the suspect was caught by the Military Police in possession of the victim’s car and belongings. He confessed to being the perpetrator of the crime.

Prison

Gilberto was imprisoned for more than 160 days. According to the MPGO, the delay in completing the police investigation meant that he managed to obtain a release from prison in June 2014.

The confessed criminal was released and ordered to return to provide clarification, but he was not found. On January 24, 2018, the Court decided to issue a new preventive arrest warrant against him, but the order was never carried out.

After the arrest for the crime committed in Mato Grosso, the Goiás Court updated the process of Osni’s death to an arrested defendant.

Series of crimes

According to the police, Gilberto is also the author of another crime, which occurred in September this year. He allegedly broke into a house in Lucas do Rio Verde (MT) and committed sexual abuse against a victim, who was sleeping.

He then tried to kill her, but the victim reacted and ended up being stabbed in the neck. Another person in the house tried to intervene and was punched.

Remember the case of the murdered family in Sorriso (MT)

A mother and three daughters were found dead this Monday morning (27) in the city of Sorriso, in Mato Grosso. The criminal worked on a construction site in the victims’ neighborhood and confessed to the crime. The case occurred on the 24th.

In addition to the homicides, Gilberto raped his mother and two eldest daughters. The police were called by neighbors, who found it strange that the family had disappeared over the weekend.

In an interview with CNN delegate Bruno França, from the Civil Police of Mato Grosso, stated that the man showed no regret for the crime and reported that, after stabbing three victims, he committed sexual abuse against his mother, aged 46, and two daughters, one aged 19 and another aged 13. The youngest daughter, aged 10, died of asphyxiation.

For the police chief, Gilberto is a serial killer. “We have no doubt he has done it before and would do it again,” he concluded.
