Reducing the interval between the 1st and 2nd doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 for children will depend on the arrival of immunizers in Brazil, according to the specialist in vaccination and professor at the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Santa Casa de São Paulo.
According to the Ministry of Health, once the immunization for the age group from 5 to 11 years old starts in January, the interval between applications will be two months.
Only Pfizer’s compound is approved in Brazil for this group.
AT CNN Radio, he stated that “the spread between the two doses is based on the scarcity of vaccine, we applied it with a longer interval and it was reduced with the increase in the arrival of doses, the interval is linked to availability.”
The expert still assesses that the dose forecast for this month is “very small”. “We are going to receive 4 million doses, which is a very small percentage for the population of 20.5 million that needs to receive the vaccine.”
The immunization of children, for the doctor, is essential, “especially those who attend school and can take the virus home, where there may be more vulnerable people.”
