Demand for the South Aegean destinations has remained very high since March 27, when the tourist season opened, until June 12, based on official data from the international airports of Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Mykonos and of Santorini. This is at least shown by the number of flights and passengers visiting the islands of the South Aegean, since they have already exceeded 1 million before the middle of the first summer month, as well as the occupancy rates of flights, which are at very high levels for the season.
Specifically, 1,118,797 passengers through 7,008 flights landed in the South Aegean, of which about half (583,042) in Rhodes, 260,660 in Kos, 167,110 in Santorini, 94,800 in Mykonos and 13,185 in Karpathos.
After April, May moved higher compared to 2019
This May proved to be better compared to May 2019, overall for the South Aegean by 4.5% with the islands of Santorini and Rhodes recording the largest increases (35% and 4.6% respectively), while the up to current valuation of the first months of the tourist season, until May 31, shows an increase of 6.6% compared to the record year of 2019.
June as August
The airports of the islands of the South Aegean have been reminiscent of the 15th of August since the first ten days of June. Suffice it to say that Rhodes Airport received 118 arrival flights on Sunday, June 12, carrying 18,513 passengers from abroad, adding to the 169,411 in total who visited the island in the first twelve days of the month. However, the flow is increased on all five islands with international airports, bringing the total number of passengers from abroad to 340,679 through 2,135 flights in just 12 days.
Top markets per island
Great Britain and Germany remain the top markets for Kos and Rhodes, and in May. Especially in Rhodes, the Swedes and the Dutch increased. The Cycladic islands of Mykonos and Santorini are mostly preferred by the British and Italians to a higher extent, followed by Germans and French.
