Artists who have achieved EGOT status; check out

Viola Davis reached EGOT status on Sunday night (5) by winning the Grammy for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling Recording.

She joined the select list of artists who have already won the four main entertainment awards – Emmy (television), Grammy (music), Oscar (cinema) and Tony (theatre).

Viola won an Emmy for her role on the series. “How to Get Away with Murder” in 2015, an Oscar for “A Boundary Between Us” in 2017, two Tony Awards for “King Hedley II” in 2001, and “A Boundary Between Us” in 2010, and now a Grammy for “Finding Me” .

She equated with artists like Audrey Hepburn Whoopi Goldberg, Barbra Streisand and John Legend.

  • Richard Rogers

The composer was the first artist to conquer the EGOT. In addition, he also won the main prize for literature, the Pulitzer.

Rogers took the Best Original Song Oscar for Romance “State Fair” in 1946.

Rogers has won two Emmys: Best Musical Contribution to Television for “Cinderella” in 1957, and Original Music Composed for Television for “Winston Churchill: The Valiant Years” in 1962.

During his career, he won eight Tonys. At the Grammys, he also accumulates several awards, winning the first in 1961 and the last in 2020.

  • Helen Hayes

The American actress was the first woman to earn EGOT status.

Hayes won three Tony Awards: in 1947 for the musical “Congratulations” ; the second with “Time Remembered” in 1958; and the third in 1980, which was awarded in honor of his theatrical career.

She won two Oscars: the first in 1932 as Best Actress in a feature “The Sin of Madelon Claudet” and, in 1971, as Best Supporting Actress in the film “Airport” .

For her role in the TV series “Schlitz Playhouse of Stars” she won an Emmy in 1953.

Finally, in 1977, she won a Grammy for Best Spoken Album for “Great American Documents” .

  • Rita Moreno

The Puerto Rican won an Oscar in 1962 for her role in “Love sublime love” .

In music, she won Best Recording for Children in the program “The Electric Company” .

She won a Tony in 1975 as Supporting Actress in the play “The Ritz” .

She won her first Emmy in 1977 for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program in “Muppet Show” and the following year, as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in “Confidential file” .

  • Jogn Gielgud

The English actor achieved the feat after winning an Emmy for his role in the series “Summer’s Lease” in 1991

He won the Oscar in 1982 for his performance in “Arthur” . The Tony and Grammy he won before, in 1962 and 1980, respectively.

  • Audrey Hepburn

She is one of the main names in cinema, but has also gone through theater, music and television.

With five Oscar nominations, Hepburn won her statuette in 1954 for the film “The Princess and the Commoner” .

  • Marvin Hamlisch

The composer has won three Oscars, for Best Original Song and Best Original Score, and four Emmys.

At the Grammys, he won four awards, including Best New Artist in 1974.

He was nominated for a Tony twice and won in 1976 for Best Original Song.

Like Roders, he also won the Pulitzer Prize.

  • Jonathan Tunick

The New York composer won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 1977.

Tunick secured his Emmy in 1982 for Excellence in Music Direction.

At the Grammys, he stood out for Best Musical Arrangement in 1988.

In 1997, he won a Tony for best orchestrations for “Titanic” .

  • Mel Brooks

The filmmaker secured his Oscar in 1969 for the screenplay of “Spring for Hitler” . Decades later, he won a Tony for the play of the same title and a Grammy for Best Theatrical Album in 2002.

He had already won the Maxi Theater Prize in 1999.

Brooks accumulates four Emmys, three of them for his role in the series “Crazy for You” .

  • Mike Nichols

The filmmaker won Best Director at the Oscars for “A Man’s First Night” in 1967.

On television, he won four awards: two for the series “Angels in America” starring Al Pacino and Meryl Streepl, and two for the TV movie “A life lesson” from 2001.

In the theater, he accumulates eight awards for several plays he has directed.

In music, he won an award, for Best Comedy Album, in 1962.

  • Whoopi Goldberg

The multifaceted artist won a Grammy in 1985 for Best Comedy Recording.

The Oscar came a few years later, in 1991, for Best Supporting Actress in the novel “Ghost” .

More than ten years later, in 2002, she won an Emmy and a Tony. In 2009, Goldberg won yet another television award.

  • Scott Rudin

Robert Lopez is the only person to have achieved EGOT status twice – having at least two awards each.

The composer won an Oscar for one of the most famous songs in cinema in recent times: “Let it Go” from Frozen.

In 2017, he won another statuette, also for Best Original Song, this time for the song by “Viva – Life is a Party” .

Lopez has four Emmys, three Grammys and three Tonys.

  • Andrew Lloyd Weber

Between 1980 and 2018, the composite received 11 awards.

the musical “Prevents” earned him three wins at three different awards: Oscar, Tony and Grammy.

Other productions that were present at the Tony and Grammy Awards were the musical “Cats” .

He is also responsible for the classic “The Phantom of the Opera” which won the theater’s top prize.

In 2020, the composer joined the EGOT group after winning an Emmy with a Princess Rapunzel TV special.

He is responsible for the soundtrack of several Disney works, such as “The Little Mermaid” , “Beauty and the Beast” It is “Aladdin” which earned him Oscar (8) and Grammy (11) awards.

  • Jennifer Hudson

The American singer and actress received her first award in 2006: the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in “Dreamgirls” .

In 2009, his first album was awarded a Grammy.

In 2021, she won an Emmy as a producer of “Baba Yaga” and, in the following year, she was consecrated after winning a Tony, also as a producer, for “A Strange Loop” .
