Asian exchanges closed the first trading session of 2022 with no single direction, but the main markets in the region remained closed after the New Year celebrations.
In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index fell 0.53% on Monday (3) to 23,274,745 points, as trading in local shares of Chinese real estate giant Evergrande, which faces serious financial problems, was suspended before the dissemination of new information.
The suspension dropped shares of other Chinese property companies listed in Hong Kong.
Elsewhere in Asia, South Korean Kospi rose 0.37% in Seoul to 2,988.77 points, boosted by aviation, construction and energy stocks, and Taiex rose 0.28% in Taiwan to 18,270.51 points.
Mainland China and Japan stock exchanges did not operate today due to holidays. In Oceania, a holiday in Australia also kept the Sydney market closed.
