Asian stocks close mixed; Hong Kong rises more than 2% on holiday return

Asian stocks ended business this Thursday (26), with no single direction, as Hong Kong showed strong performance on the return of a holiday and Tokyo took a break, after accumulating recent gains.

Returning from the Lunar New Year holiday, the Hang Seng Index rose 2.37% in Hong Kong to 22,566.78 points, boosted by technology stocks. Due to the same holiday, markets in mainland China and Taiwan remain closed.

In Seoul, the Kospi advanced 1.65%, to 2,468.65 points, extending gains for the fourth consecutive session, after the release of data on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of South Korea, which were practically in line with expectations .

In Tokyo, on the other hand, the Japanese Nikkei fell 0.12%, to 27,362.75 points, pressured by shares in the shipping sector and interrupting a sequence of four positive sessions.

The mixed behavior in Asia came after New York stock markets also closed with no single direction and close to stability on Wednesday.

In Oceania, the Australian stock exchange did not operate this Thursday due to a national holiday.
