Asian stocks close mostly higher despite losses in NY

Stocks in Asia and the Pacific closed mostly higher on Thursday (6), maintaining the positive tone of the previous two trading sessions, although Wall Street returned to the red after a two-day rally.

The Japanese stock index Nikkei rose 0.70% in Tokyo on Thursday, at 27,311.30 points, while the South Korean Kospi advanced 1.02% in Seoul, at 2,237.86 points, and the Taiex gained 0.66. % in Taiwan, at 13,892.05 points.

In Oceania, the Australian stock market was practically stable, with a marginal increase of 0.03% of the S&P/ASX 200, at 6,817.50 points.

Exception, Hang Seng fell 0.42% in Hong Kong, to 18,012.15 points, pressured by technology stocks. In mainland China, markets are closed this week for a public holiday.

Risk appetite prevailed in Asia even after New York stocks posted modest losses on Wednesday, halting a two-day rally.

Better-than-expected US employment and activity data dampened hopes that the Federal Reserve could moderate its pace of rate hikes.
