The 45-year-old former police officer was transferred to prison on Tuesday, after being sentenced for the death of the African-American.

Sauvin spends 23 hours a day in the cell, while he has one hour a day for exercise.
The cell It has dimensions of 2 × 3 meters and has a concrete bed with a thin mattress, a table and a basin with a sink.

In the wing where he is being held, there are very high surveillance measures, there are inmates who are in need of discipline or who have been separated from the general population due to their violence.
These detainees, 41 in number, are checked every 30 minutes and have little or no contact with prison officials.

The prison is the highest security in Minnesota, hosting 500 inmates and having exclusively male wings. No one has ever escaped from there, and there has only been one food-to-food death.
Sauvin, 45, will remain there for the next eight weeks until he hears his sentence. He faces up to 40 years in prison.
