The armed group that committed it the assassination of Haitian President Jouvenel Moyes on Wednesday consisted of 26 Colombians and two U.S. citizens of Haitian descent, the Caribbean police chief said on Thursday.
“It was a group of 28 assailants, including 26 Colombians, who carried out the operation to assassinate the president,” said Leon Charles, the general director of the Haitian police.
He clarified that two Americans and 15 Colombians have been arrested, three Colombians have been killed and eight others are still at large.
At the same time, at least the Six of the alleged mercenaries accused by the Haitian authorities of involvement in the assassination of President Jovenel Moes are former members of the Colombian Armed ForcesColombian Defense Minister Diego Molano announced on Thursday.
“According to the first information, these are Colombian citizens, former members of the army. “We instructed (…) the police and the army to cooperate immediately in conducting this investigation to establish the facts,” Molano said during a video that was distributed to the media by his services.
