Four “mercenaries” involved in assassination of Haitian President Jouvenel Mois were killed and two others were arrested, said Haiti Police Chief Leon Charles.
“Four mercenaries were killed, two were arrested. “Three police officers who were holding hostages were released,” the police chief said in a statement that was broadcast live on television on Wednesday night (in the early morning hours today, Greek time).
President Moise was assassinated by a group of gunmen who stormed his home. The country was declared under siege.
Leon Charles stressed that “The police continue the fight” with the armed group, it has “surrounded” them and either “they will be killed or arrested”.
It is not clear what the motives were for the assassination of the Haitian president; there are possible and unlikely rumors circulating in Port-au-Prince.
