Assassination of the President of Haiti: The first lady in critical condition

The first lady of Haiti, who survived, is being treated in critical condition an armed attack on her and her husband, President Jouvenel Moiz.

Efforts are being made to transport him to Miami for treatment, said the Haitian ambassador to the USA, as broadcast by APE-MPE.

“It is in a stable but critical condition”, Ambassador Bauxit Edmon told reporters via video call, hours after gunmen shot and killed Jovenal Moise inside his private home.

Earlier, the Haitian embassy in the Dominican Republic denied reports circulating in the country that the first lady, Martin Moyes, had been killed in the attack and said it was being considered for extradition to the United States.

Assassination of the President of Haiti: The killers pretended to be agents of the US Drug Enforcement Agency

The assassins of Haitian President Jouvenel Moyes were “professional” mercenaries who pretended to be agents of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and may have already fled the country, the Haitian ambassador to the US said.

“It was a well-orchestrated attack and they were professionals.” said Ambassador Boksit Edmon to reporters. “We have video footage at our disposal and we believe they are mercenaries,” he said. He added that the country needs US security assistance and US officials have said they are evaluating the request.

Haiti has declared a two-week state of emergency to assist in the search for those behind the killings, according to a government newspaper published in an emergency.

Preliminary information indicates that the murder was committed by a group of foreign gunmen, the newspaper reported.
