A robbery this Saturday (13) at Shopping Center Iguatemi Esplanada, on the border between the municipalities of Sorocaba and Votorantim, in the interior of São Paulo, ended up with no dead, hostages or injuries. The information was given by the mayor of Sorocaba, Rodrigo Manga (Republicans), in a video posted on their social networks.

According to information from the Military Police, calls related to the case began at 8:39 pm. Reports were of robbery and firearms being fired at the scene. Criminals allegedly invaded the mall, robbed a jewelry store and then fled the scene.

Employees at one of the stores said they were trapped in the store’s stock, on orders from the police, with three other customers, with closed doors and no electricity.

In a statement, the mall informed that the police was “immediately activated and the project continues to collaborate with the competent authorities”. The mall closed its activities for today after the occurrence.

“The police did a wonderful job,” said the mayor. He said the city’s security forces were carrying out sweeps of the site looking for possible suspects.

As the shooting took place in Votorantim, the police station responsible for the occurrence is the city’s Civil Police.
