AstraZeneca Vaccine: Australia’s First Death Probably Linked to the Formulation

Another worrying news about AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine comes from Australia. The authorities of the country reported today (16/04) the first death from thrombosis in a person vaccinated with the preparation of that company

The Australian Regulator also said it was possible the death of a 48-year-old woman linked to the vaccine.

It was the third rare case of thrombosis in people who have been vaccinated with this vaccine in Australia. The other two vaccinated are recovering well, the Therapeutic Products Agency (TGA) added. The agency said it was “carefully reviewing” similar cases in the country.

The woman from New South Wales received the AstraZeneca vaccine on April 8, the same day the government announced that the Pfizer vaccine would preferably be given to people under the age of 50, delaying her vaccination schedule.

In the absence of an alternative cause for the thrombosis presented by the woman, the Australian Vaccine Safety Research Team (VSIG) “considered that a causal relationship with vaccination could be assumed at this time,” TGA reported, according to the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency .

VSIG held a meeting today after the news of the woman’s death.

TGA also noted that Her case was complicated by underlying diseases, including diabetes, “as well as certain atypical features.”

At least 885,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine have been given in Australia so far, which equates to one in 295,000 cases, the TGA said, adding: “The total… so far is not higher than expected for the most common form of thrombosis.” .

The UK Regulatory Authority, the Drugs and Drug Administration, has concluded after reviewing cases registered in the UK that the overall risk of cerebral venous thrombosis – a rare case of cerebral thrombosis – is about one in 250 people. vaccine.

Australia has recorded more than 22,000 cases of COVID-19 transmission in the community and 909 deaths.
