The astronaut Suni Williams 59, came close to Beat NASA’s record of more accumulated days in space . The American returned to Earth on Tuesday (18) after being Almost nine months arrested at the International Space Station (ISS) .
The two arrived at ISS in July 2024 with Buth Wilmore and would even return before, but NASA decided to take them home aboard its Boeing Starliner capsule would be very risky. The agency then chose to include the pair in the regular rotation of the International Space Station crew.
With the 286 -day trip in space, Suni Williams now adds 608 days accumulated in orbit and is 67 days to reach the record of PEGGY WHITSON which has 675 days in its history of NASA. Williams also became, alongside Wilmore, the sixth astronaut to spend more consecutive time in space.
Prior to the mission that left her almost nine months arrested at ISS, Suni Williams had already gone to space twice and six months in orbit in each of the opportunity. The first was in December 2006, with expedition 14; The second was in June 2012, in expeditions 32 and 33.
