ASUS unveils 17-inch foldable OLED tablet

The foldable smartphone market a few years ago seemed like a purely concept, and now Samsung models are setting sales records. And at ASUS, apparently, they decided that it was worth trying themselves in this direction, only not with compact smartphones, but with a full-fledged tablet. At CES 2022, the company officially unveiled a tablet called ZenBook 17 Fold, which provides the potential owner (if the gadget is still sent to mass production) an impressive diagonal that can be folded in half and carried comfortably even in a jacket pocket.

It is worth noting that this novelty is a conditional evolution of the Project Precog concept, which was presented by the company in 2018 – then the device received a similar design, but instead of a folding display, the laptop was assembled from two touchscreen displays. Now ZenBook 17 Fold is a 17-inch (2560 x 1920) OLED tablet with a 4: 3 aspect ratio. The manufacturer also stated an impressive contrast, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, a response time of just 0.2 ms and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. In addition, the display is VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black certified and supports Dolby Vision.

In addition, the manufacturer decided to equip the device with a very impressive performance – the gadget is based on the unnamed latest Intel processor, there is also 1 TB NVMe M.2 SSD, 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 and a battery with an impressive battery life. service. Of course, the company has not yet provided any performance tests for the gadget, but this is not necessary – the main feature of the tablet is clearly not in powerful hardware, although the presence of Windows 11 on board opens up many opportunities for work and play.

But the main bonus of ASUS ZenBook 17 Fold, of course, is in the folding display – the user can fold the gadget into a laptop format and type text on the bottom of the screen, you can connect a hardware keyboard, place two windows on two halves of the display, compactly fold the novelty and carry it with without a large bag or backpack. Most likely, this particular tablet will not get to the release, but this is a vivid example of the fact that folding displays can perfectly recommend themselves not only in the market of compact mobile devices.
