At 3,823 the dead in Turkey and Syria from the deadly earthquakes

More than twenty hours after the strong earthquake of 7.8 degrees that shook the southeast Turkey and the northwest Syriathe number of victims has now risen to 3,823 while tens of thousands are injured and homeless in the two countries.

Turkey’s Vice President Fuat Oktay announced late Monday night (6/2) that due to the earthquakes at least 2,379 people lost their lives and 14,483 were injured. So far, 7,840 people have been pulled alive from the rubble of the collapsed buildings, which are estimated at 4,748.

Syria’s death toll rises to 1,444, according to latest tally based on data provided by health ministry and rescuers. According to a statement by the country’s Ministry of Health, 711 people were killed and 1,431 injured in the areas under the control of government forces in the provinces of Aleppo (north), Latakia (west), Hama (central) and Tartous (northwest). . In rebel-held areas of northwest Syria, 733 people were killed and another 2,100 wounded, according to rescuers.
