Increased compared to last year, the passenger traffic of the two months of January – February is recorded at the 14 regional airports managed by Fraport Greece, however, remaining at lower levels than those of 2019.
The number of passengers in the first two months amounted to 765,000 people, recording an increase of 277% compared to last year. Compared to 2019, however, traffic remains lower by 36.6% as then at the largest regional airports in the country were handled 1.2 million passengers.
Macedonia Airport of Thessaloniki had 455,000 passengers in the two months, a number lower by 40% compared to the corresponding period of 2019. Mykonos Airport had better performance where passenger traffic reached levels in 2019 as 6,800 passengers were handled, just 100 less than the year before the pandemic. The best performances in relation to 2019 were recorded by the airports of Skiathos (-1%), Samos (-13%), Zakynthos (-16%), Corfu (-20%) and Mytilene (-23%).
The big bet for this year remains the approach of the passenger traffic of 2019, especially during the summer months, especially if there is no new negative development regarding the pandemic.
As travel restrictions due to the coronavirus are easing, a major concern is the war in Ukraine and rising energy costs that could upset airline flight schedules.
It is noted that from today, Tuesday, March 15, 2022, the abolition of the PLF for passengers of international flights entered into force.
In particular, with the implementation of the aviation directive, all passengers arriving in our country from any destination abroad do not need to fill in the electronic PLF form before arrival in Greece.
