Passenger arrivals from abroad in June increased, albeit marginally, compared to June 2019, while at the level of the first half of the year, this year’s total passenger traffic reached 90.6% of the passenger traffic of the first half of 2019.
In particular, according to the provisional data of the CAA on the passenger traffic of all airports in the country, comparing the provisional statistics of June with the corresponding month of 2019 when the flights were 66,827, this year there was an increase of (+)0.9% in aircraft traffic . In total passenger traffic (departures and arrivals traffic) which was 8,427,908 in 2019, for the same period of time in 2022, which was 8,398,777, a decrease of (-) 0.3% is observed. With regard specifically to foreign flight passenger arrivals, in 2019 it was 3,477,906, for the same considered period of 2022, it was 3,480,812, an increase of (+)0.1%.
The total number of transported passengers increased by (+)167.6% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 where 3,138,908 passengers were transported. Flights at all airports in the country registered an increase (+) of 64%, compared to the corresponding period of June 2021 where 41,107 flights had taken place. In particular, for the arrivals of foreign flight passengers in June 2022 we had an increase of (+)190.5% corresponding to 3,480,812 passengers, compared to the corresponding month of 2021 when the arrivals from abroad were 1,198,398 passengers.
The picture in the semester
The total number of transported passengers reached 22,407,879, showing an increase of (+)269.1% compared to the corresponding period of 2021 where 6,071,559 passengers had been transported. Regarding the flights at the country’s airports, these amounted to 207,289, of which 90,564 were domestic and 116,725 international, recording an increase of (+)95.7%, compared to the corresponding period of 2021 where 105,930 flights had taken place.
The comparison with the corresponding first half of 2019 where there were no restrictions due to the pandemic
Comparing the statistics with the January/June half of 2019 when flights were 214,489, the first half of this year saw a (-)3.4% drop in aircraft traffic. In the total passenger traffic which was 24,726,456 in the January/June half of 2019, for the same considered period of 2022 there was a drop of (-)9.4%. According to the above figures, this year’s total passenger traffic in the first half of 2022 has reached 90.6% of the passenger traffic in the first half of 2019.
